Day 27 I don't think we are in Kansas anymore--85 miles from Topeka KS to St. Joeseph Missouri 2009-06-04
Scores from the: Tired people doing 85 miles, bike tour.
Wind: Not a lot today, Thank you.
Having an upset stomach and having to bike 85 miles: A treat.
Fatigue level: Way to high.
Passing the halfway Point: Well that was easy.
Seeing a hardwood tree: First in three weeks.
Listening to Peter complain about his tokhes: I know way to much about his tokhes.
My tokhes: It isn't feeling so great either.
Chris blurting out in the middle of the pace line: I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk? Priceless.
Jim helping me when I wasn't feeling well: Thanks, its nice to have friends.
Amelia Earhart: We rode through her home town of Atchison KS today.
Little know Fact: St. Joseph MO had a larger population in 1900 than it does today. Until the end of the Civil War it was the end of the railroad and the jumping off spot to points west.
I woke up today at 1am with a bad stomach and didn't get back to sleep. I rode with the same group I've been riding with for the last 10 days or so. Jim and Chris were feeling good so they were setting the pace. At the first SAG I consider stopping but Jim said I should just ride with him. He slowed the pace and I began to feel better. We rode into the second SAG and Peter declared that his tokhes was just too uncomfortable and he was taking the SAG to the hotel. Willie had met an old friend from work so he stopped and had lunch. I came in with Jim and Chris. The St. Joseph bike club offered us free ice cream so we stopped and I had a sorbet. We were still the first ones into the hotel.
Regarding being the first to the hotel. We are not treating this as a race. Having said that the group I am riding with is always the first group into the hotel.
Tomorrow: 86 miles to Chillicothe MO
Topeka KS to St. Joseph MO 85 Miles
The two females going cross country. Karen on the left is from Sacramento and was leading her club in miles ridden before this tour began. She is one of the Amigos and a wonderful rider. Nancy on the right began riding at age 60. Yes age, 60 and she is older than I am. And yes she has passed me. An exceptional gifted rider.
Vote taken. Oklahoma no longer has the worst state sign. New leader, Missouri.
You cannot imagine the excitement at this offer. This is pretty amazing considering the amount of money we have paid to do this tour. Messages | P.S.- 'Lance' just had a baby boy. I know you don't get all the news! Sent 2009-06-05 from peter brown | Yikes - sounds like some riding out of the saddle and a good soak in a tub kind of day! And Al, just in case you don't have your sights set on the next challenge yet, I got you a pair of fancy waterwings for that Tri we talked about months ago. I believe you can do anything!
P.S. Thanks for sharing pics of strong female riders - you go girls! Sent 2009-06-05 from Ingrid | let peter be the butt of jokes... sorry for the back-sided coment... oh well onward!!!! Sent 2009-06-05 from peter brown | Ice cream is the perfect end to a long ride. We always had
