Day 6 Back in the saddle again

2009-05-14

Scores from the I'm glad I'm out of the desert travel league:
Wickenberg to Prescott, AZ 60 mountain miles.

Leaving the desert: 10
Climbing over two mountain ranges in one day: 8
13 mile mountain climb 6
Mountain descending at speeds greater then
the posted speed limit: 10
Temps in the 90's but with cooling wind 6
Ass sores -5
Aroma from the pines as you climb the mountains 9
Mountain noises 8

Best day so far. Off the interstates, left the 100+ temps, and into the mountains.

Tomorrow: To Cottonwood, 43 miles straight up in the Mingus Mountains.

Climbing out of the desert with first mountain range to be ascended in the distance.

Refueling part way up mountain. Left to right: Karen from CA, Ira from CA, Harry from Liverpool, Jack from Tel Aviv, Hank from CA.
Hank is 73 and one of the strongest riders on this trip. He is amazing.

Road we ascended with both mountain ranges we crossed today in the picture.

Glad life is looking up after the desert heat. Sharing your blog with the 4th Grade. They think you're cool. Enjoy the climbing.

Day 6: Vacation Day
Time spent in garden, 25; lunch at Cafe Verde, 35; nap in hammock, priceless. If only I had some mountains and a desert to cross!

Al,
Dan just turned me on - to your website, that is. I'm jealous. Something I aspire to. All expect the heat illness. Good luck and I'll keep checking in. By the way, tell Dan to invite me to Zingerman's next year.

Didn't Al's mother also say that she would be shocked - SHOCKED, if Al finished the entire ride?

Great! You got through the desert. Story to run on this early next week in the AA News.

Mountain noises sounds promising. I hope you have more of those and fewer IVs.
