Day 21 82 Miles from Savannah to Brunswick GA

2011-10-12

We rode another 70 miles straight down highway 17S, urg.

Fast Jim and the three wise men {ED: Who does he thinks he's fooling}? headed out on a foggy day. At the three mile mark we are stopped by a train across a four lane highway. We waited 20 minutes for it to finally move. All riders who started at 8am had to wait.

Finally we headed south down 17S and we have ridden it through NC, SC, and now GA. It has high speed traffic, little scenic value, and is just a boring ride.

We finally decide to take a break for lunch just to break the boredom. Our choice, the Piggly Wiggly. Do not eat lunch at the Piggly Wiggly. It was simply horrid.

And yes, I still think I'm living the dream.

Thanks to Bob G. for solving the where is Cassie question. SCAD dropped basketball two years ago and Cassie is a Pastor in Savannah. I had finally reached a friend of Cassie's but he was just getting on a plane. He told me he would call me when he landed to arrange a meeting, but by then it was too late.

Little known fact:The city traces its roots to its 1738 settlement as a tobacco plantation by British colonists and a southern buffer to Spanish Florida. It came under provincial control in 1771 and was founded as Brunswick after the duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg in Germany, the ancestral home of the Hanoverians. It was officially incorporated in 1856.

Savannah has a large biking population. I especially like this one.

Waiting 20 minutes for the train to move.

I finally decided to take charge and move the thing.

Vultures eating at the Piggly Wiggly. I'm surprised they found the food eatable. I didn't.

Vultures are waiting for people who ate at the Piggly Wiggly to keel over in the parking lot. Luckily, you can eat anything and survive.
